From our humble beginnings as a railroad water station, Allen, Texas has always been about connections and service. We’re not a small town anymore with nearly 100,000 residents in our dynamic and diverse community, but we aren’t overgrown either. Conveniently located 25 miles north of Dallas, we have a thoughtful blend of residential and commercial developments to ensure a distinct presence in North Texas and maintain Allen as an outstanding place to call home. Even though we are expected to reach a population of 122,000 at final build-out, we've made strategic decisions to stay connected to our roots, pave the way for the future and build a city that is just the right fit for almost anyone.

In January 1992, the citizens of Allen passed a city-wide half-cent sales tax in support of the Allen Economic Development Corporation (AEDC). Since its inception, AEDC has been is committed to attracting, growing and serving business and industry to the Allen community. It is charged with facilitating expansions and relocations of new and existing businesses that in turn bring job opportunities, local spending, and additional tax revenue to help reduce property taxes.

AEDC operates under a five-member Board of Directors, appointed by Allen City Council. AEDC works in partnership with Allen City Council and City staff, as well as the Allen Community Development Corporation and other taxing entities, to bring exciting new projects to Allen.

A few recent projects inlcude:
  • Tierpoint / Compass Data Center, 87,000 square feet built in three phases
  • Cyrus One Data Center, three-building campus with more than a million square feet built in phases
  • Delta Hotels by Marriott And Watters Creek Convention Center, $91M project to feature 300 guest rooms, 90,000 square feet of flexible convention, ballroom, and meeting space and 1,000 parking spaces
  • One Bethany at Watters Creek, $30M Class A Office Building
  • Watchgaurd Video, $47M headquarters to employ 700 people
A key focus moving forward for AEDC is the 121 Corridor where high-end, urban-style mixed-use developments and corporate campuses would be ideal. Projects like these enhance Allen’s employment base, tax base, and image in the region.
